ISO14001 is an internationally accepted standard that sets out how we can go about putting in place an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). The standard is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact.
Our ISO14001 Certification has ensured that we:
ISO14001 - to reduce the environmental footprint of a business and to decrease the pollution and waste a business produces. It offers source of guidance for introducing and adopting environmental management systems based on the best universal practices. The end result is the improvement of environmental performance.
The P & I Generators Ltd strategy is to:
One of the ways to help this strategy is with Environmental and Carbon and Energy Management. If we can reduce our carbon emissions then we can save money by identifying which of our business activities use a lot of energy and this will help us to reduce energy and resources used.
The rationale for our Carbon and Energy Management is linked with our strategy and two of our long term visions:
We have noticed more and more that our customers are asking us about our carbon emissions when we are tendering and so having a carbon footprint helps us to meet customer requests for information on our greenhouse gas emissions. It also helps us to generate new business and if we reduce our costs then we become more competitive and bring in new customers.
We are also aware the we should be seen to be 'doing our bit for the environment' and that all our staff need to understand the contribution our business is making to climate change and do their bit to reduce it.
The techniques that P & I Generators have used to enhance understanding of our carbon emissions started as long ago as spring 2008. At that time, the requirements from potential customers was that we not only had an accreditation for a management system (ISO 9001) but that we also had a management system for the environmental impacts of our business (ISO14001). We had seen an increase in the requests from our customers to show that we had ISO14001 and in June 2008 we achieved that accreditation and have been successfully audited since that date.
