P & I Generators: More News & Information

April 2009:

P & I pass Engineering NVQ Level 2 & 3

Congratulations to our Service Engineers Martin Woodham, Dave Lawty and James Wilkinson for all successfully passing EMTA's NVQ Level 3 Engineering course and their respective Assistant Engineers Luke Underwood, Phil Winkles and Wesley Benfield for passing the Level 2 equivalent through the Paragon Training Group.

This qualification was suitable for those seeking recognition of their competence in one or more of a wide variety of engineering skills such as maintenance, servicing, installation and commissioning activities with engines, transmissions, steering, electrical generators and charging systems.

Our motivated and enthusiastic engineers already had a high level of technical skill and knowledge to participate in the course but were able to gain recognition for any existing skills, knowledge and understanding appropriate to the activity put before them and demonstrate safe working practices and procedures at all times.

They were also able to work to instructions with a minimum of supervision, taking personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work they carried out.

Through this course they could now progress to supervisory or management qualifications - but let's not get the boys above their stations!

Through a visiting Paragon Supervisor the engineers were able to complete a 2 year long course while carrying on their work commitments in just one year.

Senior Electrical Service Engineer Dave Lawty thought the experience of the course was definitely worthwhile:

"It was a completely positive process for me and our younger engineers have come on leaps and bounds and it means P & I can only go forward"

A big thank you goes out from the Engineers and everyone at P & I to Paragon's Ron Belcher who supported them every step of the way.

This is a great example that P & I train while they work to gain when they work.

January 2009:

On the Road to Success: Highways the P & I Way

P & I Generators Ltd in Havant, Hampshire have secured a major contract with The Highways Agency to provide emergency 40kVA generator sets for an initial 24 of its Regional Control Centre (RCC) Outstations across the country.

The Highways Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport. They manage, maintain and improve England's motorways and major A roads on behalf of the Secretary of State.

Procurement at the Agency drew up a tender with the requirements to install emergency power to all of the outstations that are vulnerable to a power failure and ensure the continuity of operations.

P &I will supply, deliver, install and commission as well as maintain during the warranty period all 24 sets in the Annex provided, within the 12 hour response time stipulated by The Highways Agency.

P & I Generators Ltd have evolved over the last 10 years offering nationwide service, installation and hire of all types and makes of diesel and gas powered generators and UPS systems in the range 5kW to 2MW. They provide an emergency call out service 24 hours a day 365 days a year for fault diagnosis and repair, with an average 3.5 hour response time for UK mainland contract customers.

Reassuring factors obviously help in securing the trust of their customers so the fact that P & I are an AMPS and OFTEC registered company and currently hold ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental) and government approved CHAS (health and safety) certification must impress. They also hold their own quality, environmental, health and safety and diversity policies which are stringently adhered to.

New Contracts Manager at P & I Mr. Jonathan Terzza says:

"This contract is amazing news for P & I in such times of worldwide economic frailties. I believe it was not the work of one person that secured this contract but the coming together of our highly motivated and dedicated team."

Having met with The Highways Agency Project Manager and Project Officer, P & I are extremely confident of the success and operation of this project, and look forward to an ongoing relationship with the Agency for the foreseeable future.

December 2008:

CHAS says P & I's Safe & Healthy!

After several months of hard work by our Quality Assurance Department the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) have assessed us as compliant and are to be added to P & I's growing list of accreditations.

CHAS has been developed by Local Authority health and safety and procurement professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The aim of the scheme is to offer one accreditation system for public and private sector organisations to look for when selecting a contractor.

MD Paul Benfield comments: "This assessment by the CHAS organisation is recognition of the commitment by P & I Generators Ltd to not only comply with but to continuously improve health and safety at work. It will help us to further develop our services in the generator industry and provide our customers with the assurance of a continued problem solving and solution advising specialist business, now with the added benefit of CHAS accreditation".

Now we are accredited to CHAS, potential customers can rest assured that with P & I they have chosen a supplier to tender or carry out work that meets all of the acceptable standards of health and safety compliance as set out by the relevant governing bodies.

Congratulations!

Well done to Senior Electrical Service Engineer Dave Lawty who has just successfully completed eDF's 5 day High Voltage Operational Training Course meaning P & I Generators are all wired up and ready to serve you and your needs.
